For our October session, we hosted Nader Pouratian and Aryn Gittis.

Nader Pouratian, M.D., Ph.D., is a Professor and Chair of Neurological Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. His research and clinical practice intertwine to develop and apply novel neurotechnologies.

Aryn Gittis, Ph.D., is a Professor at the School of Biological Sciences, Carnegie Mellon University. She runs the Gittis Lab, where the primary research focus is understanding how the organization of neural circuits in the basal ganglia shapes movement in health and disease.

They gave a joint presentation titled “Optogenetically-inspired pallidal burst stimulation for Parkinson’s disease: From models to human translation.”
